Conclusions of How Email works

Conclusions of how email works

  • E-mail, unlike postal or "snail mail" can be delivered at any time.
  • Incoming mail can be immediately printed, saved to disk, replied to, forwarded or deleted.
  • Outgoing messages can be carefully composed, delivered instantly, and even sent at a specific time.
  • An E-mail message can be delivered at any time, without long distance charges.
  • Messages can be sent out to dozens or even thousands of people at once.
  • Messages will not be lost until you delete them.
  • handy when you are rushed you can easily ask someone to do it for you without having to risk security measures.
  • relatively easy to use, most people find it straight forward.

Firstly, the advantages are;

  • email is effective in providing quick answers to yes and no, type questions. eg. Do you do international delivery?
  • Email is effective in finding the right person in an organisation or company to answer your question.
  • Email is good to make appointments for busy people.
  • Email can distribute information quickly to many people for the time it takes to email one person.

The disadvantages are;

  • Email can become timeconsuming for answering complicated questions and misunderstandings can arise because cultural differences in the interpretation of certain words.
  • The telephone, is much better for providing detailed answers or if you feel that the question is not absolutely clear.
  • Email can compromise the security of an organisation because sensitive information can be easily distributed accidently or deliberately.
  • Email should be entrusted to well trained and trusted staff members.
  • Email can become impersonal or misunderstood.

How Email Works

How Email works?

Electronic mail, often abbreviated to e-mail, email, or originally eMail, is a
store-and-forward method of writing, sending, receiving and saving messages over electronic communication systems. The term "e-mail" (as a noun or verb) applies to the Internet e-mail system based on the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol, to network systems based on other protocols and to various mainframe, minicomputer, or internet by a particular systems vendor, or on the same protocols used on public networks. E-mail is often used to deliver bulk unsolicited messages, or "spam", but filter programs exist which can automatically block, quarantine or delete some or most of these, depending on the situation.

Email is based around the use of electronic mailboxes. When an email is sent, the message is routed from server to server, all the way to the recipient's email server. More precisely, the message is sent to the mail server tasked with transporting emails (called the MTA, for Mail Transport Agent) to the recipient's MTA. On the Internet, MTAs communicate with one another using the protocol
SMTP, and so are logically called SMTP servers (or sometimes outgoing mail servers).
The recipient's MTA then delivers the email to the incoming mail server (called the MDA, for Mail Delivery Agent), which stores the email as it waits for the user to accept it. There are two main protocols used for retrieving email on an MDA:

Download services

Download Services

Download services are used by an enormous amount of people, but all for different reasons. You can download a number of things such as music, videos, picrtures, documents etc. Here are a few examples of advantages and disadvantages of downloading.

Advantages:

  • It is cheaper than buying the real thing.

  • it is alot quicker to download, than to go out and buy what you would like, also it saves hassles doing it all on the computer.

  • You can choose the exact thing you want rather than having to look around and searching for a specific thing.

  • It is also easier to find your ay around sites, than looking places and going to shops.

Disadvantages

  • Virus can be recieved from dowloading things
  • They can download stuff of you
  • Downloads can be traced
  • Hackers can hack in to your account and computer and things
  • Filed under false name, asin they wont have the desired name and will have to search harder
  • Often Illegal sites, which can get you into trouble

All in all I believe that downloading software, songs and programs from the Internet is very good, but I also believe that the Internet downloading can be improved in many ways. For Example being able to see the original source of the program and that it is possible to be 100% sure that a file does not contain a virus before you download it. Also you should be able to check the file for viruses before downloading comenses so that you know what you are going to be recieving.

Online Services

For this experiment I am going to compare 5 different online revision websites, and compare them to find out which one is the best to revise for your GCSE’s and A-level’s. The sites I am going to compare are, science museum, Sam learning, bbc bitesize, virtual classroom and revision links.

Science museum
Science museum has good resources but also has many downfalls. The website is easy to use but only once you get the hang of it. For first time users of the website, the layout can be a little confusing and hard to find what your looking for. There is no indication to where the revision segment is set, it only says ‘online stuff’. However the sight does have valuable information and has pictures and stuff to make the sight look more interesting.

Sam Learning
Sam learning is an easy site to use and also very informative. The site provides you with tons of useful information to help you revise. It is set out nicely and has a wide range of subjects and topics to choose from. Another good factor about the website is that it is password protected. It is the only one I have came across with protection, which means your account is safe and everything you do will be kept to yourself. However the site lacks a lot of key subjects, this means you only have a small choice of subjects and some of yours may not be on there. Also when you click on A-level it takes you straight to test papers and not to revision. This is not very good as you would not be able to revise before you take the test.

BBC Bitesize
BBC Bitesize has a well laid out homepage, with all the subjects needed. The website is really easy to use and has loads of information to offer. On each subject you choose there are lots of topics to choose from after. However if you are not a GCSE student the website is not very useful, as it lacks in the number of subjects and choices on topics. All in all the site is good for anyone that is not an A-level student.

Virtual classroom
Virtual Classroom is a really confusing revision website to use. I could not find any of the links for GCSE and A-levels. Therefore I did not click on any of the links as I was unable to find them. Here is an example of what the homepage looks like:
I clicked on most of the links on the left hand side, but still no way of finding revision things.

Revision links
Revision links is a really good website for revision. The choice of subjects to choose from is vast (an example is below). Each subject you click on brings up a range of different topics in a new window. This is good as you can choose from a wide range of different things. The site is very easy to use and also is straight forward. The layout is quite plain but that doesn’t really mater. Many links come up after you have chosen a subject. This gives you a wider choice of where you would like to revise from.

Conclusion
Throughout my search on the World Wide Web =P I checked out 5 different revision sites and compared them all. I found that most of the sites are all quite hard to get your head around. Although some of the sites were quite easy to use. Depending on the difficulty of how to use the site, could have an effect on the Childs revision which will lead to a lower grade. Each of the websites all had advantages and disadvantages. Once I understood how to use some of the more difficult sites, they became very useful and had lots of valuable information.
